About Us

Jacob E. Marine continues a long tradition of manufacturing sailboat steering hardware that began with Jacob Edson under the Edson name from 1859 to 2026. During that time the company only saw a handful of ownership changes. In recent decades the Keene family owned and operated the business from the 1960s to 2021 as the Edson Corporation. Overseeing multiple facets of the company including sailboat steering, pumps and pumpouts, Anbar Foundry and Quality Welding.

Now in 2026 the company finds itself under the stewardship of Adam Cove, who was the operating CEO for the final years under the Keene family, as well as the partners of Potentia Manufacturing Group. The same craftmanship and quality that the company was founded on in the mid-1800s is seen in our facility in New Bedford, MA. Jacob E. Marine offers the same sailboat steering hardware for your Edson steering system, with the same talented manufacturing team and in the same building we’ve called home since the 1960’s. The 2026 change of name from Edson to Jacob E. Marine for our steering equipment was forced by the 2025 sale of a powerboat product line (which included the copyright of the Edson name for steering wheels and pedestals) in 2025 by the previous short-tenancy ownership. With our new name, we’re recommitting to our heritage of innovation and manufacturing. Thank you for starting us on the path, Jacob Edson.

Jacob E. Marine is a division of Edson Pumps LLC. Our Edson name remains tied to our pumps, and reflects our other division. Jacob Edson started his company with the invention of the diaphragm pump and we continue to lead the industry with a range of manual and powered pumps. See edsonpumps.com for bilge pumps, marine and marina pumpouts, and pumps for commercial, military, and industrial applications.
